How
to Measure for a Bimini Top for the Pontoon
Replacement Bimini Tops are a great investment for the prolonged enjoyment of the sunny summer days. Bimini Tops fold down easily to allow sun to flood the entire deck of the pontoon. At night they do not obstruct the view of the stars or 4th of July fire works like the fixed tops. If the shade is needed from the hot sun they are quickly raised and ready.
The size Bimini Top needed for a particular Pontoon boat depends on only a few variables. When replacing a stationary top choosing the size closest to the current top size is usually best. This offers the benefits of the Bimini Top with the same (or close to the same) amount of shade.
Putting a Bimini Top on a pontoon that has not been equipped previously with a top is a little different. Measure the distance from the back fence to the front of the captains stand (steering console). This distance is usually the length top that is desirable for the pontoon.
The Bimini Tops we offer are able to span a side to side dimension of 88" to 92" . This means that if the rails of the pontoon fencing is between 88" to 92" on center these Bimini Tops will work properly. The Lengths front to back are 8' and 9'. (See the Bimini Tops on the Internet Site.)
Caution should be used when measuring a pontoon for a Bimini Top. Determine if the top will interfere with any of the gates along the side gates. The Bimini Tops available through Bloomfield Boating Supply are mounted on the top of the aluminum rail of the fence. There are some pontoons that have fencing constructed differently. Sometimes these differences can be overcome with a slight modifications or special bracket.
Consider the Radar Bar Kit if the Bimini Top will be closed at night. With the top closed using the optional Radar Bar Kit an all-round light can be mounted on the top to meet night time running requirements. (The all-round light will also meet requirements when the top is open when mounted on the top.) The Radar Bar Kit will also keep the top from interfering with the passengers in the back seat along the back fence when the top is closed.
A Bimini Top Boot is also available. The Boot is a sleeve that zips over the Bimini Top when it is closed. This protects the top from the elements and will prolong the life of the top material. The Bimini Top Boot also is useful when storing the top for the winter.
